My New England childhood was filled with summers spent around the beach and in the water – Long Island Sound, Block Island, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Sound and all the activities and food that surrounded it. Steamed crabs. Lobster rolls. Quahogs. Clamboils at one particular uncle and aunt’s house were my favorite. Those clamboils were pretty amazing. One huge pot filled with different layers of steamers (Ipswich clams), potatoes, corn on the cob, onions, lobsters and hot spicy chorizo sausage. Baked beans on the side. Learning how to pick the fresh tasty meat out of lobsters and crabs. Mmmm! This week itself will be a crab fest where we may feel picked on and picayune. The heat is on emotionally so we may all be feeling like clams and lobsters in a pot of boiling water.
The Sun is in Cancer (June 21-July 22). We are insular, defensive and self-protective under this influence. Emotions run deep. Our focus is on quality over quantity, home, family, nurturing and being nurtured, building a nest, feeling safe, security. Mercury is in Cancer (July 8-23). Our communication and thoughts are more reflective and focused. We attune ourselves to what personally matters to and affects us. It is hard to be objective. Add to the mix that Mars in Cancer (June 24-August 8) and conjunct Mercury and the clamboil is on! This is a week when there can be some heavy, nasty painful things said. People want what they want and they want it for purely emotional reasons. Defensiveness is at a high. Not getting the desired goal will produce pain, resentment and anger. This will be challenging because at the same time our goals and plans will be subject to mood swings and vacillations.
In the midst of this, on Wednesday July 15/Thursday July 16, we have another emotionally charged lunation! It is the New Moon at 23° 14′ Cancer on July 15, 2015 at 06:24 PM PDT. Whoa!
Support women during this New Moon in Cancer!
Here’s a great women’s event: http://thndr.it/1exDcTC
Cancer can be very placid, very silent and very passive but remember this is a cardinal sign, a leadership sign, so it wants control and to be in charge. With this New Moon there are three other planets in cardinal Water so thetre is no quiet . These are roiling hot boiling waters that want to get things accomplished. Crabs have wicked pincers, and they hold on for dear life. Threaten a lobster or crab or it’s loved ones and it snaps that pincer! Mars-Mercury conjunctions, which we will have in Cancer on this New Moon, specialize in delivering verbal cuts and pinches that will leave you in tears. If you are on the receiving end of such this week you may not realize it until it is over and you are writhing on the floor in pain. Uranus in Aries could provoke some things to be said without thinking and that will only set off the pain! Watch your mouth!! The opposition to Pluto in Capricorn reinforces power and makes the pain go DEEP. Neptune in Pisces could dull the edge with a little dreamy delusion but the best advice is to stay out of those conversations. Be conciliatory and diplomatic (Libra). That is the key to dealing with this energy.
Uranus in Aries square the New Moon in Cancer has energies of resentment and insecurity all over it. The Ram could smash The Crab against the wall to crack or break its shell, but the Crab will get in some good pinches and hold on for dear life — maybe even pinching The Ram in very uncomfortable places. Both could end up feeling they have gotten a raw deal and must defend themselves. Try to avoid extreme reactions. Respond gently and diplomatically, again, to result in the best of all possible outcomes.
We have two conjunctions during this lunation – Mercury and Mars in Cancer and Venus and Jupiter in Leo. Water puts out fire so do not let your ego get the better of you. You could find yourself standing there looking stupid and being quite painfully burnt because HOT water has extinguished your fire.
There is some good news here: Saturn in Scorpio is trine to these four planets in Cancer lends solid support to efforts made towards safety and security, commitment, home and family, babies and children, traditions and nurturing. The existence and traditions of home and family are important.
The other good news, outside of home and family, is about women. This is a good week for people to uplift women and women’s issues, a great time for women to support women, and an excellent energy for women to gather around women and make plans with other women. It is, however not a good week to piss off a woman or in any way attack her. She will defend herself and you will feel it.
This Cancer New Moon has a decided bite, thought, that may be revealed within the family. Family can cause us more pain than other people. Simultaneously, this is where we get the bedrock of our love in life. This is where we should be loved, warts and all. Really, watch you r mouth this week and let the hard words stay in your head and not escape your lips. Show loving actions. The weekend and a release from pressure will come soon enough! When people feel crabby the best thing they could ever get is lots of love hugs and good home-cooked meals. Steam up some clams, crabs, corn, chorizo sausage, potatoes and onions. Make some macaroni and cheese. Bake an apple pie. Then share it with loved ones and save what seemed so important to talk about until another time. You may find it was not so important after all or at least could be said in a different tone.
A quick rundown of what we have coming up this week, along with this New Moon in Cancer:
Venus in Leo (June 5-July 18 and July 31-October 8). Venus enters its pre-retrograde shadow on June 21st, will be retrograde from July 25th to September 6th, and will move through its post-retrograde shadow until October 9. Leo is about pride and the ego. Uunder this transit we take pride in our love relationships and loved ones. Leo is warmhearted and generous and under this transit we want to spend our resources (especially our money) on our loved ones and full our relationship with abundance. We want to be generous with with ourselves and our expressions of love. Leo loves the stage and playing. Under Venus in Leo love gets all the summer hot boosts of love and affection. ad we are generous with our money as well while Venus is in Leo. Venus in Leo makes us want pure romance! This is energy that will make people give the things necessary for the romance in a relationship – adoration, acknowledgement and validation. The downside is being overly dramatic or overly generous and spending more of ourselves or our resources than we really should. Moderation is good!
Venus in Virgo (July 18-31 and October 9-November 9). Venus enters its pre-retrograde shadow on June 21, will be retrograde from July 25 – September 6, but it will be October 9 before it sends its post-retrograde shadow. Those six weeks will be a time of expressing love through service and duty. We will do little things for each other, for our lovers and loved ones. Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual but also quite practical. and with Venus there, it means love that has meaning and purpose. Does this relationship makes sense? Do we serve each other well? This is only a small portion of a VERY GOOD year for Virgo.
Saturn is in Scorpio until September 17, 2015. Saturn demands breaking down faulty structures forming new ones, making structure where there is none making and keeping commitments, valuing traditions., accomplishments and maturity. Positive home and family traditions are something Saturn in Scorpio honors and supports. The negative hidden secretive and dangerous family and home traditions are what Saturn in Scorpio will break down, expose and remove by the end of the transit. Some people may experience this as limitations restrictions and removal of freedom. However Saturn in Scorpio, with some help from Pluto in Capricorn at this time, teaches us true freedom and liberation comes through commitment and delayed gratification or denial. What is broken must be thrown away and what is of true value must be preserved. Saturn’s transit of Scorpio since October 2012 has been empowering us all in the areas of self-empowerment and self-mastery by making us deal with our obsessions and compulsions, our large debts and out-of-control finances and out addictions. We have learned that WE are the only ones who take away our power, by not acting in mature way, by not observing rules and traditions, by running form commitments, by immersing ourselves in delusions of grandeur about what it is to be powerful. By the time mid-September 2015 comes, we will all know the truth about how we should be living our lives — and Saturn IS about “should”. No relativity and pluralism here. And when you do not follow the rules and tradition, when you do not make commitments, when you do the immature things, you destroy your life. No one else, only you are responsible for what happens to your life. What do you want YOUR life to look like in two months?
